"Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it." ~Eckhart Tolle

We often focus on just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to our health—thinking, “If I just exercised more…” or “If I just ate better…,” I’d be healthy. But true well-being goes beyond diet and exercise. We’re multi-dimensional beings, and every part of our life affects how we feel and function.

The Wheel of Health, developed by Duke Health and Well-being, offers a more complete view of our well-being. It helps us see how all aspects of our lives—body, mind, emotions, relationships, environment, and purpose—are connected. When one area feels out of sync, it can affect our overall balance. Exploring the Wheel of Health helps us notice what’s going well, as well as areas where a little extra attention could create greater harmony.

Together, we can explore your Wheel of Health and create a plan that strengthens your well-being, helping you feel more balanced, energized, and supported in every area of your life. Let’s take a closer look:
The Wheel of Health
We begin at the center of the Wheel of Health, where the focus is on you. Everything starts with mindful awareness - being consciously attentive to your physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being. This awareness is the first step toward meaningful change. So, what exactly is mindful awareness? It’s the simple practice of paying attention, on purpose, to what you’re doing as you’re doing it—being fully present in the moment.
Rooted in that center of awareness, the wheel expands outward into self-care categories—the lifestyle areas that shape your overall health and vitality. This covers the basics, like movement and nutrition, plus often neglected areas, such as personal growth, professional development, and your environments' impact on well-being.

Finally, the outer ring of the Wheel of Health highlights the importance of prevention, intervention—and how you can benefit from the combined support of both conventional
and integrative health practitioners. It’s a reminder that well-being is holistic, and that every spoke of your wheel supports your journey toward balance and vitality.

Let’s take a moment to check in with each area of your wheel, starting right at the center with "You." As we move around the wheel, notice each category—where are things feeling strong, and where might you want to grow or shift? Which area(s) of your life feel really solid? Which area(s) could use a little extra attention?
There’s no judgment here—just a chance to see the full picture and start thinking about your next steps. Which areas of your life feel strong and steady right now? Since our well-being is constantly changing, you can revisit the Wheel of Health anytime to reflect, reassess, and set a new focus for yourself.
